Tcitcernakaberd Memorial complex to the Victims of the Armenian Genocide

The Armenian Genocide Victims’ Memorial complex, or Tcitcernakaberd, is built in Yerevan, on Tcitcernakaberd Hill. The author is sculptor Van Khachatryan, the architect is Artur Tarkhanyan (co-authored by Sashur Kalashyan).
The construction of the monument lasted for 2 years, 1965-1967, and was solemnly opened in 1967, on November 29.
The memorial complex, consisting of three monuments, occupies an area of 4500 square meters. Ձախ The 100 m long memorial wall stretches from the left side. In the centre is the Temple of Eternity with a diameter of 30 m, with 12 giant basalt pediments bowing towards the centre. Visitors are led to the hall of the temple and the eternal torch by unusually high steps descending from the platform, which seem to force them to bow before the memory of the victims of the Genocide. Not far away, the 40-meter-high “Reviving Armenia” monument rises, symbolizing the idea of the rebirth of the Armenian people.
