Newly Discovered Inscription at the Great Hermitage of Tatev

In August 2026, an archaeological expedition of the Research Center for Historical and Cultural Heritage, led by Arman Nalbandyan, discovered a remarkable and valuable stone lintel during ongoing excavations at the Great Hermitage of Tatev.
As a result of on-site work, after the stone was turned over, it was found that the lintel bears an inscription. This previously unknown and unpublished inscription provides new information about the history of the construction of the hermitage’s cells.
The inscription is currently under study. According to preliminary findings, it contains the name of a person in whose memory the cell was built, or who may have lived there.
The discovery is important for studying the history of the Great Hermitage of Tatev and the stages of development of its architectural complex.
The excavations are ongoing.
