In 2008-2013, the expedition of the Scientific Research Centre of Historical and Cultural Heritage (head of the expedition: A. Nalbandyan) carried out excavations in the Chichkhanavank area of the Shirakamut village, Lori region, the RA.
The excavations were carried out at the initiative of the “Land and Culture” national organization, its main aim was the complete restoration of the church.
The discovery of monuments, architectural details, and inscriptions was important.
A large amount of archaeological material found during the excavations – earthenware, among which oil lamps, metal jewellery, beads, arrows, coins, etc. deserve attention – were studied and restored in the archaeological restoration department of our research centre and are now in the Lori-Pambak local museum.
