From December 1st to 5th, 2025, employees of the Research Centre of Historical and Cultural Heritage (Head of the Restoration Department Elena Atoyants, restorers Araks Aloyan (metal) and Siranush Khalikyan (ceramics)) were sent to Georgia, to the cities of Tbilisi and Mtskheta. They visited the Simon Janashia Restoration Laboratory of the National Museum of Georgia with the aim of familiarizing themselves with the progress of restoration work.
During their visit to the museum and the restoration laboratory, the employees of the Centre, accompanied by their Georgian colleagues – Deputy Director of the Museum Nino Kalandadze, Head of the Department of Metal and Glass Restoration Nino Kebuladze, as well as other employees from the ceramics sector and archaeologists – were introduced to the methods and principles applied in Georgia for the restoration of museum exhibits, the organization of workspace, the preparation of items for exhibition, and the documentation required for the entire restoration process.
In the new laboratory, located on the museum grounds in Mtskheta, our restorers learned about the process of its setup and equipping with modern technology.
Expressing their gratitude for the warm welcome, greetings were conveyed to their Georgian colleagues from the Director of the Research Center, Khachik Harutyunyan, along with an invitation for a reciprocal visit to Armenia to learn about the work of the Research Center for Historical and Cultural Heritage laboratory, its ongoing programs, and to discuss opportunities for joint projects.
